Virtual Me

Fat Girl's Weight Loss Blog has "My Virtual Model" and I did two versions of myself. It kind of looks like me. One at 282 -now and 129 which is what I think will be my goal weight. Do you keep your eye on the prize at the end, or do you not allow yourself to go beyond the next loss? What is the most productive and successful way to look at your progress? When I lost 70lbs with my insane meal replacement shake fiasco, I panicked when I got to the halfway point and gained it all back. So far, I am on track. If you have quite a bit to lose like me, how do you stay on track?

I stay on track by keeping up with how much weight I have lost in a 2 week period. I find that it helps me to stay motivated and I am not sitting around wondering how far I have come and just how much more I need to go. I like the pics you have set your eye on the goal. We are behind you.

Isn't this a cool way to visualize things? I played with this on the Land's End web site, then found My Virtual Model, which has more backgrounds and clothing options. I went a little nuts with it, though: I made a starting weight model, a current weight model, a halfway point model, a top-o-the-weight-range model, and a goal weight model. It is helpful.

In a way, I'm oddly lucky, in that I also have the distraction of blood glucose meter obsession in addition to scale addiction. ;-) But in both cases, I have only so much control: I can take my medication, eat to plan, and exercise to plan, but that's all the control I have got. What the tools show is that my body may or may not have responded to my actions in a given day or week, due to factors beyond my control: stress, hormones, and the like. It's hard to learn to be at peace with what the tools show, though. I'm still figuring that out.

But I have other measurements to track my progress, too: I take body measurements monthly, and then there are also the health numbers my medical team assesses as I learn to manage diabetes: cholesterol, blood pressure, a1c.

You're doing great! Hope you have a terrific weekend.

I believe what I need to do is set small goals. My first one being 10% and so on. If I look at the big picture where I need to lose more then 100 pounds I'll just sit and cry. I way 10 pounds more then your weight posted and I have to tell myself going down to 263 would be a true blessing and a step in the right direction.

Great blog by the way!
